The 38 published client profiles
Everything we hold on each company in Shuraako's live portfolio, now with a full research pass: One Earth Future's legacy project records, Shuraako's own impact stories with the investment figures, and an open-web sweep for websites, social channels, founders and group structure.
Sources: shuraako.org client profiles (WordPress API, 18 Aug 2026) · OEF legacy project pages · 18 Shuraako impact stories · targeted web search per company. The RFP cohort is 26 and the regional split here mirrors the RFP's 13/11/4, so the 26 are almost certainly a subset of these 38. Unconfirmed.
What the research changed
These are financed businesses, not corner shops
Shuraako publishes an investment figure for ten of the 38. Those ten alone carry at least $5,246,690, an average of $524,669 each, ranging from $197,766 to $1,200,080. Read it as a floor, not a total: Ijaabo's published figure is only its second-round loan, several companies took repeat loans whose earlier amounts are not published, and the other 28 companies have no figure at all. Every one of them took that money to buy plant: boreholes, cold storage, LPG filling equipment, solar conversion, a second factory. The financial management system is not being installed at businesses that keep a shoebox of receipts; it is being installed where half a million dollars of donor-backed capital is already deployed and needs accounting for. That is the argument for the audit track, and it puts our fee in proportion.
| Company | Disclosed investment | What it bought |
|---|---|---|
| East Africa Shipping Company | $1,200,080 | Fleet expansion: 20 IVECO trucks, part-funded by $514,320 of its own money |
| Baidoa Electricity Company | $749,990 | Grid expansion and solar; reached 20% of residents who had no power |
| Puntland Petroleum Company | $700,000 | New Garowe LPG facility: nine cylinder sets, 12MT tanks, electronic filling, ISO tanks |
| AADCO Paper Factory | $499,600 | 2019 Murabaha; extra building, new product lines, less import dependence |
| Solargen Technologies | $496,127 | Four new showrooms in high-demand cities; revenue up 35-40% after investment |
| Tabaarak Company | $420,000 | Machinery and raw materials; headcount up about 30% |
| AFI Water Supply | $413,548 | Automatic blow-moulding machine with preform auto-feeder, plus raw materials |
| Somali National Fishing Company | $300,000 | Factory rebuild and cold storage, with USAID GEEL technical support |
| Soma Chicken Farm | $269,579 | Two investments totalling this figure; equipment and capacity to go from pilot to commercial |
| Ijaabo Water | $197,766 | A SECOND-round loan: three-storey office building, new freshwater boreholes, more solar. First loan not disclosed, so its total is higher |
A real digital-maturity ladder
The sweep produced a readiness signal nobody has to self-report: what each company already runs on the open web.
2 run online ordering (Ijaabo Water, ILO Tango) with product catalogues and prices. 7 more own a working website. 10 live on social media only. 19 have no findable web presence at all.
Every link on this page was fetched on 18 August 2026, which turned up two things a search result alone would have got wrong: Hill Development's own domain is suspended (it redirects to a cPanel account-suspended page) while its four social channels stay live, and baidoaelectric.com has no DNS record at all, so Baidoa Electricity is reachable only at beco.so.
That maps onto the readiness tiers better than any proxy we had. A company already taking orders online has staff who work in systems daily; a company with nothing has to be taught the concept of a record before the concept of a ledger. The assessment should confirm it, not discover it.
Structures that break the one-company-one-instance assumption
Six companies are not single sites. Maandeeq Poultry has a sister company, the only slaughterhouse in Hargeisa. Somali Water Development Union is a federation of individual borehole owners across three districts. Tabaarak runs two factories 700km apart. Solargen operates in five cities including Nairobi, across a border. AFI Water spans Mogadishu, Kismayo and Baidoa. Green Paradise opened a second location on its loan.
Each is a scoping question the ToR does not ask: one company or two, one currency or two, consolidated or separate. Cheap to settle at inception, expensive to discover in month four.
Prior programme experience, which cuts both ways
Several have already been through donor-run business support: Somali National Fishing came with USAID GEEL technical assistance, Sun Fishing had an Oxfam Work in Progress grant, Tayo Uniforms has a published OEF case study and its founder went through a management programme, Barisamaad was profiled by the Danish embassy.
They know what a capacity-building engagement looks like and will measure us against it. Worth naming in the proposal as a reason the coaching model is built around their staff rather than around our reporting.
Named people to work with
The sweep surfaced owner-managers by name: Kaltun Abdiaziz Adam (Green Paradise), Amina Aden Mohamed (Tayo Uniforms), Barlin Shire (Barisamaad), Ahmed Warsame Kaari (Ijaabo), Nemo Yusuf Mohamed (Al-Hayaat), Abdilahi Isse (Tayo Plastic), the Hassan brothers (Al Siha), Dr. Abdisamed (Soma Chicken).
Four of the eight are women running women-owned businesses. Useful for inception scheduling, and a reminder that training lands on named owner-managers, not on an abstract finance function.

Adeeg was established in 1998 as a small-scale factory producing, servicing and repairing large metal tanks (water storage) and other metal equipment. The Company’s other products include truck/trailer bodies, modifications to truck/trailer steel structures, steel frames for housing, and steel fixtures and furniture. Adeeg has secured prominent clients –for example, the national Fuel Storage Facility at the Berbera Port – due to its proven and quality work. Adeeg’s growing demand was hampered by their production capacity. Adeeg received investment capital in 2015 for the purchase of modern metal fabrication equipment which allowed more efficient and greater varieties in production. With the new equipment, Adeeg projects a 73 percent increase in water tank production, which will be carried out with the aid of 18 new highly skilled jobs. An additional 2018 investment from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund allowed Adeeg to procure modern metal fabrication and welding equipment, thereby increasing its production capacity.

) Kaafi Enterprise for Environmental Protection and Sanitation (“KEEPS”) is one of Shuraako’s first clients. It has been operating as a waste management service in Somaliland since 2012 when only 65% of the daily waste generated in Hargeisa was being collected due to inefficient equipment. To address this problem, KEEPS sought to increase its capacity and productivity through the acquisition of modern waste handling and disposal equipment. A 2014 Shuraako-brokered investment supported K.E.E.P.S. in increasing its municipal solid waste services by procuring heavy equipment and transportation. In 2019, after the successful repayment of its first loan, K.E.E.P.S. secured additional financing from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund to expand its construction services capacity with the purchase of additional heavy equipment. These funds are enabling KEEPS to deploy two additional fleets of heavy machinery, increasing garbage collection, water development, and disposal services. The benefits of increasing these services include additional access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation in public spaces, and local job creation. Over half of K.E.E.P.S.’s permanent jobs are occupied by women, and its compensation is competitive. K.E.E.P.S. employees also take advantage of training and capacity-building events hosted with one of Shuraako’s partners, DANIDA. These events help small and medium enterprises like K.E.E.P.S. offer their employees opportunities to learn more about Shuraako loans, build new skills, and network with other companies in the region.

Tayo Uniforms ("Tayo") is a female owned and operated manufacturing business that sells high quality and affordable uniforms to schools, corporations, and other entities across Somaliland. In order to meet growing demand, Tayo needed capital to further expand its manufacturing capability and procure bulk fabric from abroad. Prior to the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund financing, Tayo Uniforms obtained two Shuraako-facilitated investments to procure bulk fabric and sewing materials and further expand its production capacity. These loans allowed Tayo to double its output, reduce unit prices by 44% for its customers, and manufacture an additional 6,500 uniforms. In addition, Tayo gained subsequent skills and funding through participating in the Shuraako-facilitated business development training program, helping Tayo jump-start production of their reusable sanitary pads. In April 2021, Tayo Uniforms obtained a loan through Shuraako's Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund to procure additional industrial sewing supplies, a screen printer, and shelving. The materials purchased are helping to expand Tayo's operations in two ways: first, in fortifying their reusable sanitary napkin production, benefitting low-income populations for whom imported menstrual supplies are not cost-effective; and second, by responding to additional demand for the masks they have been producing . The programmatic funding, coupled with Tayo's business decisions, has bolstered Tayo's immediate economy in the wake of the pandemic.

With an investment of $413,547.5 under the NHAOF Investment, Afi was able to acquire an automatic blow molding machine with a preform auto feeder, as well as essential raw materials, including 5.65 million preforms and caps. This significant investment enabled the company to scale up production, enhance efficiency, and improve product quality.

Founded in 2004, Ijaabo Water (“Ijaabo”) is the only known piped water provider in Somalia that also purifies, bottles, and distributes water and ice products. With the use of three diesel generators and a 26.5 kw solar installation, Ijaabo powers its purification, bottling, and ice production, while also producing enough solar energy to draw out water to company-owned piping where it is then stored in its water tanks. Established to provide accessible and clean water supply to homes and commercial entities in Mogadishu, the company has seen continued growth in its piped water services and has expanded to include complimentary business lines such as bottled water and ice. As demand for Ijaabo’s services grew, the company quickly became a household name in Mogadishu. Through a Shuraako-facilitated investment, the company was able to expand its serviceable area and reach new clientele by procuring land, an 800 m3 water tank, and solar equipment (26.5 kw). This investment allowed Ijaabo to fully utilize its new well, established in 2015 through a previous Shuraako-brokered investment. The investment also allowed Ijaabo to increase its available water storage by 380 percent and its solar capacity by 100 percent.

Founded 25 October 2017 in Mogadishu by merging individual borehole owners to pool capital, which makes it a federation rather than a single business and probably the most complex ownership structure in the cohort. Pipes water to households and businesses across three districts from 24 boreholes, four of them solar at the time of the loan; the 2020 NHAOF investment converts the rest from diesel to solar and adds two generators and a storage hangar.

In 2020, SWDUC was approved for a loan through the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund. The investment is being used to convert the remaining boreholes from diesel to solar. In addition, the company is purchasing two generators and constructing a large storage hangar. Due to the high cost of diesel, SWDUC was constrained into higher rates for its customers. In using solar power, the company plans to lower their rates and attract new customers.

Established in 2016, Daryeel Modern Industry is a furniture and manufacturing business that designs and produces custom-made wood and metal furniture for hotels, offices, schools, and homes. In 2019, the company embraced rooftop solar installation to primarily lower its operating costs, and it was able to procure renewable energy products and other installation materials through a Shuraako-brokered investment. The company now saves 30% per month from the installation of the solar system.
OEF legacy record
Established in 2016, Daryeel Modern Industry (“DMI”) is a furniture and manufacturing business that designs and produces custom-made wood and metal furniture for hotels, offices, schools, and homes. DMI also constructs customized doors and windows for residential and commercial buildings. In 2019, DMI pivoted toward alternative energy through the installation of a solar rooftop. After the installation, DMI sought to procure renewable energy products and other installation materials via a loan from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund. These products include additional solar panels, inverters to monitor the solar grids, and string boxes to fuse multiple power inputs into a single output. The company anticipates an average energy cost savings of $3,500.00 per month from the installation of the solar system. Additionally, DMI plans to introduce a new line of solar window products for regional markets in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, generating a new stream of income. The company aims to contribute to the economic development of Somalia by addressing gaps that hold back Somalia’s energy sector. In 2019, the company sought to increase its electrical power supply to support its goal of extending services to communities in both coastal and inland rural towns via electrical mini-grids. The NHAOF loan allowed DMI to procure a solar system, thereby increasing its power generation and supply capacity by 1MW.

Data caveats
Name collisions are the biggest trap here. Three companies could not be pinned down on the open web because unrelated Somali firms share their names: Asal Builders (at least three unrelated construction firms), Badmaal Fishing (badmaal.so is the World Bank's $50m fisheries programme, not the company), and Kaah Electrical (kaahgenerals.com and "KAAH Electric" may be different businesses). Daryeel Modern Industry is furniture; daryeel.com is a separate construction company. Verify before using any of these externally.
The "Jobs Created" figure is not a headcount. Against OEF's employee counts it diverges violently in both directions: Puntland Petroleum 19 vs 170, Somali Water Development Union 728 vs 154, KEEPS 503 vs 235, Maandeeq 100 vs 42. Use enterprise size for complexity and take real user counts at the readiness assessment. Where the two sources disagree, the card shows both.
Founding years conflict between sources for at least six companies — Crown Hotel (1992 live, 2008 OEF, "early 1990s" on its own site), Ijaabo (2004 vs 2012 in Shuraako's own story), Tayo Uniforms (2012, 2013 and 2014 across three sources), ILO Tango, AFI Water, Tabaarak. Quote as "as published on your client profiles", or not at all.
